An au pair should be received cordially by their Host family, who should not treat the au pair as a Domestic, rather a member of the family.  An au pair helps for up to 25 hours per week, five hours a day, plus two evenings' babysitting a week.  In return, the au pair should be given at least £60.00 weekly pocket money. The au pair must have two full free days off per week, and these should be agreed in advance to allow the au pair to plan her time.

Her duties are generally helping with the children and light household duties.

All au pairs are entitled to one weeks' paid holiday for each 6 months' stay with the Host family.
